The City of St. Louis had 120 homocides all of last year, the city - TopicsExpress

The City of St. Louis had 120 homocides all of last year, the city has 118 this year and were still in October. Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has announced that he will create a commission to study the socioeconomic issues that dominate the St. Louis area, including Ferguson, Mo. Thats interesting to me because I dont feel that you need a panel of experts to pontificate on the ills that afflict St. Louis and its black suburbs. All you have to do is drive north of Grand Blvd pass Saint Louis University and the famous Fox theatre and you will see what looks like Baghdad in a major America city. Shuddered buildings while the liquor store and gas station thrive. Small children running the streets unguided after the street lights come on. Rundown motels where shady business happens. This is the legacy of social, racial, and economic discrimination. When you shut a group of people off from the rewards of the overall society, poverty, unemployment, family breakdown, and violence fester. Governor Nixon you dont need a panel to study this just talk to the single mother or unemployed man who lives off Whittier or Page or Cote Brilliante or Penrose. They can tell you whats wrong. When the white and black middle class leave the inner city for suburbs the low income are left behind with subpar city services, dilapidated schools, lack of jobs in the community in which they live, and modern St. Louis is created. We dont need a new panel what we need is new policies that address socioeconomic and racial discrimination. But thats too much to ask.
