The Clean India Drive by our Prime Minister is the need of the - TopicsExpress

The Clean India Drive by our Prime Minister is the need of the hour but its implementation is being incorrectly understood by most officials. It is not just a question of treating our premises; everyone does that. It is about ensuring that waste material is hygienically disposed from place where it is produced to the last point where it is disposed. Throwing out waste from our houses on to the street has long been a practice in India. It is this which has to stop. Let the campaign start from the canteens of Central Govt employees, Army HQ CSD Canteen complex, Taurus canteen, DSOIs and their premises; DSOI Delhi Cantt projects the worst image of the Defence Services with its unhygienic premises. The backyards of Lutyens must be seen to be believed. The nallah adjacent to Police Station Chanakyapuri stinks to high heavens. What I am saying is that it is not a magic wand that these brooms in hands of officials will wipe clean Indias environment. There has to be a culture which has to be established. What can one say to a labourer in a camp outside a highrise if he has no toilet facilities. It should be incumbent on a construction company to first provide suitable premises for its labour and some form of education for the children so that they are gainfully busy while their parents work.
