The Clean India initiative launched by NaMO is one of mixed reaction to me. Pros - Drive message of cleanliness culture - Have citizens to take ownership of cleanliness in their own area of control. - Take ownership of public spaces and ensure that they are clean. - Build toilets for all..very commendable. Cons - Arent there agencies that are entrusted with public cleanliness? Are we allowing them to go scot free? What about their accountability? This area is not being addressed. - How long will public spirited citizens keep cleaning public spaces. Is that scalable? Is it sustainable or just a Oct 2 photo op? - Who is the process owner for public cleanliness? Is that being shifted? - Our houses / cars / offices are generally clean. It is the public spaces that are pathetic. Isnt it a governance issue? - What about the corruption in city cleanliness admnistration? If that is addressed will not things fall in place automatically. Notice to BJP Trolls: - This is my FB wall and I am entitled to express my opinions. - Democracy is about everyone being able to express divergent opinions on matters of public interest. - If my views differ from yours, so be it. Accept it. That is how democracy is supposed to work. We are not a dictatorship. - Rules of public debate require that civility be maintained when expressing divergent views. - If you violate the above, zero tolerance on my side.
