The #ClimateChangeSummit rallies yesterday were absolutely - TopicsExpress

The #ClimateChangeSummit rallies yesterday were absolutely fantastic but what was missing? SINGING I have been through hours of videos of the rallies and, across the board, there is almost no singing – a little by Pacific Islanders and Africans but essentially very little. Unity and emotional strength comes from singing an anthem. The will to go on against all odds. Have you never been moved to tears when your national anthem is sung? Singing an anthem binds people together emotionally; a strong bond is instantly created in the crowd at a football match, any stadium etc. A thousand people walking down the street is nowhere near as impressive as a 1000 people singing loudly in unison; the latter has far more mass. WE NEED A STRONG CLIMATE SONG. Luckily one has already been created for us in 2012 by the Belgian Climate Group. There are no copyright worries. It uses the very rousing Italian partisan song, Bella Ciao, and the new climate-related words have been donated free. Words like “We need to build a better future and we need to start right NOW.” A Youtube video of the song can be found at https://youtube/watch?v=XGgBtHoIO4g. Over 380,000 people sang this song in 2012 (80,000 in Belgium). A very good studio version with the words in English on the screen can be found at https://youtube/watch?v=CfU3fK0RG5k. Don’t worry about the typed introduction which is in Dutch; the song is sung in English. A pdf of the music and words is attached. It can be played all in one key (Fminor) though the modulation (from E-flat to E to F, all minor) does give it an extra kick. Please pass this round to every one you know in the climate movement and I think you will find they absolutely love it. I have not yet met a person who is almost instantly dancing, jumping up and down and singing it joyously. Those who heard it at the Australian Climate Action Summit loved it. This song could make people happy to join with others on the rallies. They’ll enjoy being there. Look at the enjoyment on the faces in the video. It could substantially increase the number of people at rallies.
