The Coachella Valley Water District will hold a workshop on Oct. 7 - TopicsExpress

The Coachella Valley Water District will hold a workshop on Oct. 7 to educate the community about chromium-6. The workshop is at 6 p.m. at the Steve Robbins Administration Building, 75515 Hovley Lane East in Palm Desert. It is not necessary to RSVP to attend the workshop, which is free and open to the public. Chromium-6 occurs naturally in groundwater in the Coachella Valley. The California Department of Public Health has released a draft MCL (Maximum Contaminant Level) that proposes to set the allowed level of chromium-6 in drinking water to 10 parts per billion (ppb). If this proposal is approved, about half of the domestic water delivered by CVWD would be above the MCL. The cost to design, construct and maintain new treatment facilities could raise water rates by as much as $50 per month.
