The Cochnewagan Trailblazers recently had a few officers and members assemble at the home of Gilbert “Gib” Pettengill, who had a long history of dedication to The Cochnewagan Trailblazers, particularly the snowmobile aspect of the club. Gib and his family have snowmobiled actively since the 1970’s and have supported the club in many ways since that time period. Gib served the club not only as an active member, but as treasurer for several years. He also served as “Mr. Bush Hog,” by clearing a significant portion of Monmouth’s 40-plus miles of snowmobile trails over the years. Most significantly, Gib and his late wife, Sandy, allowed for the Trailblazers to erect a large portable garage on their property that housed most of the clubs various pieces of trail equipment that included ATV’s, snowmobiles, tractors and other miscellaneous items. The Pettengills also allowed for grooming equipment to be parked just outside their door during the winter months, which were operated at all hours of the day and night for the past 14 years. As a result of Gib’s dedication and volunteerism to the club’s endeavors, The Cochnewagan Trailblazers recently voted to honor Gib and in memory of his wife, Sandy, by dedicating and naming the new clubhouse in their names, which will be erected within the next few months. During a recent visit, Gib was also presented a Certificate of Appreciation for all his hard work and dedication to the club and for allowing us to make his home our home. Sadly, less than a week after this presentation was made, Gib passed away from a long-term illness. The Cochnewagan Trailblazers are forever in his debt and truly appreciate all the sacrifices the Pettengills’ have made throughout the years.
