The Coen Brothers FARGO was, like the best of their films, a masterpiece of tone: a black comedy that poked gentle fun at Minnesota niceness while introducing us to a smorgasbord of increasingly hapless and depraved schemers. Im happy to report that the new FARGO on TV still has one foot firmly in the wood chipper, dontchaknow. It admirably meets the nearly impossible challenge of continuing the tone and acting quality of the original. Martin Freeman, a Brit, is astonishingly good as the hen-pecked avant-Nygaard, and Billy Bob brings the menace as a fella Clearly Up To No Good.
