ACCESSION NUMBER 2010.221.1-3 MEDIUM OR TECHNIQUE Gold, enamel and diamond (mine-cut) NOT ON VIEW COLLECTIONS Americas, Jewelry CLASSIFICATIONS Jewelry / Adornment, Sets The necklace, given by Samuel Colt to his bride (Elizabeth Hart Jarvis) as a wedding present, consists of graduating floriform blue enamel links set with twenty mine-cut diamonds interspersed with smaller diamonds. Total carat weight: 38.84. The earrings, along with a matching necklace, were given by Samuel Colt to his bride (Elizabeth Hart Jarvis) as a wedding present. Each consists of a floriform blue enamel rosette set with a central, mine-cut diamond (1.54 and 1.35 carats) with surrounding smaller diamonds. The kidney-wire hoops have been replaced by 14 kt screwbacks. Markings Unmarked Provenance June 1856, purchased by Samuel Colt (1814-1862), Hartford, CT and given to his bride Elizabeth Hart Jarvis (1826-1905) on the occassion of their wedding; thence by descent in the Colt family; March 16, 2010, anonymous sale, Skinner Inc., Boston, lot 567, to the MFA (Accession date: April 14, 2010) Credit Line Frank B.
