The Congress-led UPA will fare badly if the general election is held now, said a survey carried out by the ABP Ananda- Nielsen. The survey, conducted across 21 States, says the UPA will suffer badly in several States, while the BJP-led NDA will gain considerably. The UPA’s kitty will come down to just 136 from the current 262, while that of the NDA will go up to 206 from the current 158, said the survey. According to the survey, BJP’s star performer and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is the “favourite” with as many as 48 per cent favouring him as the PM. On the other hand Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi comes a distant second with 18 per cent want him to be the PM. The survey gave a big thumbs down to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with only 7 per cent want to see him in the top post for the third time. According to the survey, in politically crucial Uttar Pradesh, Congress’s kitty will come down to six from the current 21, while the ruling SP will get 24 seats. However, the biggest gainer will be the BJP whose tally will swell to 23 from the current 10. In Maharastra, the share of Congress-NCP coalition will sharply come down to 16 seats from the current 25. In Bihar, the ruling JD(U)-BJP coalition will get 34 seats while the Congress will manage to get just three. In West Bengal, the TMC will get 14 seats, the Left Front 18 and the Congress will get 9 seats. by: dev singh
