The Consequences. NASA and NOAA release reports confirming 2014 was the warmest year on record, 13 of the 14 warmest years in recorded weather history have all occurred in the opening years of the 21st century. As air in the tropics is heated it expands, pushing the jet stream towards the poles where it mixes with frigid arctic air; this changes weather patterns. We are several decades away from Global Warming causing the polar ice caps to melt and flooding the coastlines; that wont cause blizzards, drought, famine, or mass migration. The collisions of our jet stream with the polar vortex will; Climate Change is only one of the many consequences of Global Warming. You dont have to be a scientist to prove that humans are causing the rising levels of CO2; you just need a car and a garage. What happens if you start that car with the garage door shut? You suffocate. As the car runs, it oxidizes the O2 in the air with gasoline (C4-C12), the result is roughly 19 pounds of CO2 per gallon of gas. You suffocate because the oxygen in the air has been converted to carbon dioxide. We have taken trillions of pounds of carbon that has been trapped in the earth over millions of years in fossil fuels, and released them back into our atmosphere over the last 100 years. If we dont cut back by a modest 30% by 2030 the consequences wont be a few hot days in the summer and a few more snow storms in the winter. Late and early frost will destroy crops in he Midwest. Droughts in Texas and extreme low temperatures in Montana will kill cattle. Droughts in California and Arizona will cause more frequent wildfires. Weeks of power outages and coastal flooding in the Northeast will become routine. As resources become scarce, and people become desperate, famine and mass migration will follow. All this could to be mitigated if you just changed a few lightbulbs. Maybe buy a turbo charged V6 instead of a V8; more horsepower and nearly twice the mpg. Or take a minute to learn about the safety improvements weve made in nuclear power over the last 30 years. Modern designs, including Pebble Bed and MSR cannot meltdown. Dont buy an electric car if your power grid is fueled by coal. Even if the liberals are wrong about climate change, these solutions still save you money without sacrificing anything.
