The Convair B58A Hustler - effectively a two-stage, Mach2 strategic bomber. That lower part of that big pod held the fuel for the attack phase and when empty could then be jettisoned leaving the upper part containing the megaton range nuclear weapon which would then be manually dropped at supersonic speed. Part of the worlds 1960s Cold War arsenal, its horrific purpose didnt detract from searing performance, broken time/distance records and and amazing 4-engined, delta wing design. Below it is the (never built) B-58C, which would have had over 5000 mile range, Mach3 dash speed and a ceiling over over 70,000 ft. ...
