The Core is a major and essential component of every Halo Installation and is a massive repository of data and is located within the confines of the Control Room. The Core is capable of controlling almost every single aspect of the Halo from its habitable biosphere, rate of rotation, internal capabilities, gravity, and other attributes both large and small that are key to the functionality and operability of the Halo. The Core even has the power to override the protocols and actions that a Monitor may wish to perform. The Core is also where the Halo is activated once it comes into contact with the Index. If the Index is forcibly removed during the process of activation, all seven Halos will go into Standby mode, where they can only be activated through access to the Ark. -Ingresser of Solar Escapades
