The Corporation for National and Community Service, through the NC Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service, has awarded a grant to Community Care of North Carolina (CCNC) to support 13 AmeriCorps members within two CCNC Networks. In Wake County, service members will be part of an 8 member team with CCWJC/CCC. AmeriCorps is a national service program founded in the same spirit as the Peace Corps, VISTA, and the Armed Forces, and other forms of national service. The AmeriCorps program provides members with a full time service experience in exchange for a modest living allowance and an educational award. Common goals of AmeriCorps: Getting things done through direct service in education, human needs, environment, and public safety. Strengthening communities by bringing together Americans of all ages and backgrounds into service. Encouraging responsibility and opportunity for members through training and job experience Our 8 members will be allocated as follows: · 2 Members will serve with the CATCH program · 2 Members will serve with the CCC · 1 Member will serve with Living Healthy · 3 Members will serve with community partners (SouthLight, Alliance Medical Ministry, and Urban Ministries) I will be recruiting for the CCC and LH positions and have attached the job descriptions. The AmeriCorps member will receive the following benefits: 1. A living allowance in the amount of $16,000 per year. a. The living allowance is taxable, and taxes will be deducted directly from the living allowance. b. The living allowance will be distributed monthly by direct deposit into a checking or savings account as designated by the member. 2. Health insurance is provided for eligible members. 3. Upon successful completion of the member’s term of service, the member will receive an education award from the National Service Trust. For successful completion of a fulltime term, the member will receive an education award in the amount of $5,500. 4. Members may request forbearance on certain qualified education-related loans. Term of Service: 9/10/13 to 8/31/13 Hours per Week: 40 hours (M-F 9am-5pm with weekends and evenings occasionally required) Members also attend monthly trainings and participate in National Identity Day service projects such as Martin Luther King, Jr Day of Service and Make a Difference Day.
