The Corps of Discovery (Lewis & Clark Expedition) used one of these on their 3 year journey to find the Northwest Passage, the source of the Missouri River and explore, map, and document the recent Louisiana Purchase for the United States of America. They would not have survived without the Shoshone woman Sacagawea and William Clarks personal slave, York and lots of luck and good planning. When determining where to establish their winter camp on the Oregon coast, both Sacagawea & York had an EQUAL VOTE with the White expedition members- as it should have ALWAYS been.
