The Corrupt and Weak Buhari that some Nigerians never knew of: by Ena Ofugara: Ena AND ENA GETS A LITTLE MORE HISTORY LESSON ON MANY THINGS MILITARY AND COUPS AND THE MAJOR PLAYERS. I am the biggest student. Everyday, people come on my page and educate me on what I had written, by either adding many details I did not know, or simply pulling down what I had. Kingsley Iriogbe once scored my piece on Consequential Obama F9 on a major aspect of the piece. I did not argue too much cos I know when I lose an argument, or cannot win it. Yesterday, I got one such lecture. It was however over the phone. Many people just would not join the fray on facebook. They read religiously, but refuse to put eternity to their words by writing it down. You know the police warning to people arrested anything you say, can and will be used against you. So this sis actually called me and broke it down better than any man can. Let me see share what I gleaned from the discussion. The words are as I understand them and in my words. Ena, how now. I see you love Nigerian history. I added you after reading your piece on Okotie-Eboh. That was brilliant, even if you miss a few points here and there. On the Shagari coup, I think people are being a bit hard on Buhari. It was the Gowon coup that brought in Muritala that Buhari fully participated. Gowon was a Middle-Belter and Christian, so for you people determined to brand Buhari as Pro-Muslim in everything, here is a point for you. Muritala was a strict Muslim and did not play with his prayers. He and Buhari were very close. He made him Governor of Buharis mothers state Borno. When the 1983 coup was to take place, many of the soldiers were from the Middle Belt, including Babangida and Vatsa. They were about to remove a blue blood Shagari, a prince of the Sokoto Caliphate at its most powerful time, from power. Buhari was approached for his support. He made it a pre-condition that nothing must happen to Shagari which Babangida accepted very quickly as Babangida himself was a very intelligent man and always wanted the Caliphate to support him. It was why Brigadier Ibrahim Bako, Shagaris sons friend was sent to arrest Shagari and ensure nothing happened to him. Shagari, feeling betrayed by Bako, commanded his bodyguards to shoot Bako, and they did. Now to why I am telling you this. You have accused Buhari of favouritism by imprisoning Southerners while allowing many Northerners to be under house arrest. I am not justifying the action. I just want to explain it to you how it happened. Buhari, having protected Shagari, when Awwal, the former Niger State governor was alleged to have been caught in the UK with very huge amount of money, it was Babangida who now said he too will protect his own person. Buhari could not argue with Babangida. The truth that nobody will admit is that BUHARI IS largely VERY WEAK. In the SMC, it was Tunde Idiagbon that was standing up to Babangida. Buhari was nothing but the script reader to Nigerians. You may be too young to know about THE LANGTANG MAFIA and so many groups of soldiers all loyal to Babangida. Buhari to them was a pushover. When the drug-pushing scandal came, Idiagbon it was who was said to have confronted Babangida. And when Idiagbon went to Mecca, Babangida simply pushed aside the WEAK Buhari in what has been referred to as a PALACE COUP. You can now see why I tell people close to me that Buhari will be able to do very little about corruption. Apart from the fact that in a civilian regime a presidents arm is usually tied, ( for instance, the real corruption is the salary and emoluments the legislature is paying themselves. No president can touch this and retain his job as he will be impeached), Buhari hasnt really been able to stamp his authority on any organization, hence the missing moneys. I do not think he stole it....at least not all. Also, I do not really think he is strongly against corruption. Abacha appointed Idiagbon and Buhari to his government. Idiagbon is said to have asked him to declare his asset, thus calling Abacha a thief even before Abacha had truly begun his rule. Buhari on the other hand accepted to serve, money got missing under his watch and has compounded it all by saying Abacha did not steal a kobo. Furthermore, those around Buhari right now is all the proof you need that he is not anti corruption as well as that he is never really in charge, else he would not allow a Timipriye Silva be the one to present his form. It does not tell the story of anti corruption. Politicians collect money from strange sources, but never flaunt it as Buhari is doing with Silva and others. Ena, let me arm you with information you obviously do not have. Next time they tell you Buhari is squeaky clean, ask them how many companies executed contracts for PTF. Ask if any PTF contract has a Julius Berger or Strabag logo. All PTF contracts were executed by Afri-Project Consortium. Also the owner who sadly just died in his hotel room, Salihijo Ahmad, is Buharis in-law. I do not think there is a more Pro-North company out there than Afri-Project Consortium. Julius Berger employ people from everywhere. Afri-Project Consortium is principally out to employ Northerners. So Ena, I have my Voters Card ready and I am definitely voting Goodluck. Buhari as a man has not shown me enough pugnacity nor pluck to get my vote. Did Abraham Lincoln cry when he lost elections?
