The County Council Show starring Carlisle Roddey If you have never been to one of those County Council Meetings. I can’t say I don’t blame you. They are about as interesting as watching paint dry. But you really should try it, at least once. Just so you can say you showed up, did your civic duty. If nothing else, at least watch the video made by ChesterWhistle, but, only on a night when there is nothing good on TV. King Carlisle, the host, does the intro. Everybody stands, does the pledge of allegiance. Then, there is the prayer. Sometimes I wonder, are they praying for guidance from God, and at the same time, secretly, praying to themselves that people don’t find out what they are really doing. Also Praying that if Jimmy Bruce and his camera are there. Please don’t let the room be crowded. Most times it never is. First time I saw Jimmy I thought. Who is this dude running all over the place setting up microphones and cameras. I figured he worked for Roddey and the boys. Come to find out he worked for you and I. He works for free, of course. Tell them, OK people, tonight, we are gonna do our civic duty. We are gonna watch my favorite comedy / drama/ tear jerker show, “The Chester County Council Meeting, starring Carlisle Roddey and friends, November edition. After all the whining quiet downs, just sit back and enjoy the show. The drama part, thats first. It’s where the council shows you how patriotic and religious they are. The comedy part is if you believe that. It’s something to watch, as they keep a straight face, trying not to fall asleep, pretending to listen to citizen’s comments. Thats where you or me “the citizen” can get up there and tell it like it is. The really fun part, for them, is seeing that little, all disappointed look, on the speakers face. After they don’t say anything afterwards, excepts thanks. Then you can go sit down. It’s on with the show. Sometimes, after comments, they take a commercial break. They call that executive session. They all go in another room by themselves, have a few laughs about what people said, go pee. The tear jerking , that’s where you come to realize they don’t care about citizens comments, the people seated before them, or you. Realize that they are gonna spend, waste, maybe even keep, a ton of your money and most people will never know. Furthermore, they have convinced most people there is nothing they can do about it. Those are what I call “empty chair people.” The people whose chairs are empty, because they haven given up on change. The last part is the saddest. It’s where you look behind you, or if you are there, beside you and realize the friends and family have either fallen asleep or snuck out of the room. You are the only one that cares about what you have just seen and heard, about your town, your county, or is it theirs. The stars of the show. So what are you gonna do about it? Well you read this, maybe watched Jimmy’s video that’s a start. At least now, you are awake. Now go shake, wake, somebody else up with what you know. Maybe they too will become a fan of the show.
