The County of San Diego has issued a letter very simply stating they find no racism or discrimination in the Health and Human Services Agencys, central south Child Welfare Services. This despite the numbers of minority staff targeted, despite the numbers of discipline, demotions, terminations, investigations toward minority employees. It was of no surprise, considering it was the County investigating itself. Unfortunately the county did not provide any supporting data for their position despite our request for specific numbers and dates that would clarify the situation completely. A cover up by an agency that serves such a large portion of our population is extremely serious and has to be pursued. This proves they must have a citizen/community oversight board to profoundly review a failed system and leadership. I truly hope Ethics and Compliance didnt mislead leadership. It is no wonder minority children and families are still disproportionately represented in such a faulty system in denial. A 100,000 dollar grant to a community agency will not solve Institutional racism, but may shed more light on it. Onward to the Grand Jury, thanks to the lack luster investigation of the county. Fortunately, the media maintains its interest in this information.
