The County of Union NJ conducted its 158th Reorganization on January 4,2015. Acting Union County Sheriff, Joseph P. Cryan was elected in November 2014 and officially took the oath of office on January 4, 2015. An elected constitutional officer serving a three-year term. Responsible for courthouse security and transportation of prisoners, service of criminal and domestic warrants and extraditions. Responsible for the family violence unit, processing and maintenance of records of arrested persons and assisting local law enforcement agencies in the identification of suspects in criminal investigations. Distribution of seized narcotics funds, K-9 Unit searches for missing persons, detects narcotics, investigates suspected arson, training other canine units. Service of summonses and complaints, notices of motions, orders to show cause, writs of attachments and execution. Wage garnishments and special garnishments. Special services include a gun safety program, the voluntary fingerprinting of school age children, identification cards for seniors, and directing the “Sheriff’s Labor Assistance Program” (SLAP).
