The Crane near Muleshoe was refound at 10 am this morning by Dan Jones. I was pulling up as he found it in a farm field near houses on fm 3397 east of the NWR. The bird will be much easier to locate in field feeding than on lakes at the NWR. We watch the bird for 20min before the group all lifted and split in 3 group. I looked for another 45min but couldnt refind it. Most of the group is still in that area but your looking for 1 bird in 5000 so bring a scope and extra patience. This bird has very white cheeks and the entire neck is white down to the chest. The face around the beak is black and there is black on top back of his head but not going down the neck much at all pass the skull. The height is very similar to the Sandhills and it is on average a little more slender than most of the group. The back color is only slightly different than most over the sandhills wil a lighter sand look to it but it is the neck and face that will help you find it in the crowd. Dan will post more info and better photos when he gets access to a internet.
