The Cross condemns us before it sets us free. That is why it is - TopicsExpress

The Cross condemns us before it sets us free. That is why it is such an offense to the natural man. It brings us face to face with the true condition of our unsaved hearts. It makes us see ourselves as miserable guilty sinners. When he considered the cross, Charles Wesley said, “Vile and full of sin I am.” The Apostle Paul said, “In me (that is, in my flesh,) dwells no good thing: ... O wretched man that I am! (Romans 7:18, 24) That is the language of those who see themselves in the light of the Cross of Christ. Sin is so horrible that nothing but the blood of Jesus could deal with it. The Cross is not Gods patching over our sins and saying, “All is well.” It is God showing sin as it really is, bringing it to light, and dealing with it through the blood of His Son. Prayer: Father, we take sin so lightly. We excuse it, hide it, blame others for it. We rarely see it in the bright light of Your holy Law, and even brighter light of Your Cross. Oh, God, help us see the ugliness of sin so we can see the beauty of Your forgiveness. Help us see the shame of sin so we can see the glory of Your grace. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
