The Crystal (Christ) Cathedral is situated at Garden Grove in California, right on a dangerous earthquake zone. Its massive and made entirely of glass. The bishop feels confident that it is so earthquake proof that it is safer to be inside there than outside when the inevitable massive earthquake hits, but really, that defies common sense. San Francisco again is an extremely dangerous place to live, but people move there to work and live all the time. Vesuvius will eventually experience a massive eruption and people continue to move there to live. Likewise Little Krakatoa will eventually create a massive eruption that will effect a hugely populated region. Why do people continue to choose to live in such dangerous areas, when the risks are well understood? Is it overconfidence about human technological abilities, as was famously tragic in the case of the Titanic? Is it the lure of wealth? Denial? or having no choice due to being tied to a place? Are we less intelligent than we think we are? Do you live in such a region? More than anything.. why build a huge cathedral out of glass in an earthquake zone? (images of the Crystal Cathedral)
