The Cunning Plan: Stuff to Discuss These are decisions we have to make as a group and that I want everybodys opinion on. Then we can finalise everything after the holidays. • THEME – Looking at the MA anthologies, I think their biggest weakness is a lack of theme. They have really weak, vague titles and no cohesion between pieces, which makes them look way more amateurish, even though the content is actually really good. So I’d like to take some suggestions for a theme we can all write around – it can be anything. Personally, I like concrete themes best, but others prefer something less corporeal and more abstract that reflects where we are now as writers. Someone suggested Youth which hits the mark pretty well, but the floor is open for suggestions. Also, a theme would encourage everyone to write something new rather than recycle an old piece, which I know we all do from time to time, but I think this anthology should showcase what we’re all capable of right now. • GIVING A PORTION TO CHARITY - it was suggested that 10% of royalties go to an appropriately writerly charity, both because it would be a strong marketing point and because charity is cool. Is everyone OK with that, and if so, which one? • DO WE WANT A FOREWORD? - if so, by whom? • WHERE ELSE CAN WE MARKET IT? • ANY QUESTIONS ANYONE ELSE HAS – don’t hesitate to raise them.
