The Cuyahoga Falls City School District and its teachers union have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract. In a joint statement issued Aug. 27, both sides say they “have recommended ratification.” They declined to provide details of the proposed pact until it is approved by both sides. The Cuyahoga Falls Education Association is scheduled to vote on the proposal Sept. 13. By mutual decision, the district and the CFEA sought mediation to arrive at a new contract. The district’s contract with the CFEA expired Aug. 1. The two sides began negotiations the Monday after school closed for summer vacation, according to CFEA President Melody Carlisle. “We are pleased to share this news [of the tentative agreement] with our community,” BOE President Kellie Patterson said in the statement. “We want to thank the federal mediator and the negotiation teams for their efforts. I want to point out that these were cordial, respectful and smooth negotiations—a true demonstration of teamwork and compromise showing we are all in this together.”
