The DAWN spacecraft is now approaching dwarf planet CERES. CERES - TopicsExpress

The DAWN spacecraft is now approaching dwarf planet CERES. CERES is a very mysterious object. Maybe it was once a moon ejected from the Jupiter system or maybe the mythological Nibiru or something. It seems much too round to be a typical asteroid or comet. Maybe DAWN can drag it back and we could have two moons.... We know so much about the solar system and yet so little about dwarf planet Ceres. Now, Dawn is ready to change that, said Marc Rayman, Dawns chief engineer and mission director, based at NASAs Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. The best images of Ceres so far were taken by NASAs Hubble Space Telescope in 2003 and 2004. This most recent images from Dawn, taken January 13, 2015, at about 80 percent of Hubble resolution, are not quite as sharp. But Dawns images will surpass Hubbles resolution at the next imaging opportunity, which will be at the end of January.
