Poverty becomes a habit where it is easier to accept government largess than it is to find a job. But even more importantly, if one has a job, he is producing something that society doesn’t have. Maybe it is just another ear of corn or another bowl of rice, but that adds to everybody’s wealth. If instead that person just eats that ear of corn or bowl of rice, the wealth diminishes. It is kindness to help out those who can’t work but it is detrimental to society when people could work but don’t. Contrast this article with that of Krugman who laments the loss of benefits for the unemployed; his understanding of basic economics is atrocious for a Nobel Prize Winner, in economics no less.
