Reagan refused it – he said that if he was supposed to be President he’d be President and there wasn’t much reason to put that level of protection on an actor. Jimmy Carter has a Secret Service detail, though they’re not doing much out on his peanut farm. Ford’s in the House of Representatives, so he gets covered, and the Bush family as well, and Billy Clinton is even covered, though he’s only about nine at present.” He shook his head. “A 9-year old, with a Secret Service bodyguard.
