The Dallas Cowboys went into Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday and defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 17-3 in what was a defensive slug-fest. What was expected to be a high-octane, high-scoring game turned into a low-scoring defensive struggle resulting in six punts in the first quarter. Both offenses were obviously slow out of the gate, but Dallas turned it up in the second half on both sides of the ball. Eagles quarterback Nick Foles struggled with accuracy until he was knocked out of the game at the very end of the third quarter with a head injury. The back-up quarterback to injured starter, Michael Vick, threw for a total of 80 passing yards on 11 of 29 attempts. His replacement, rookie Matt Barkley was welcomed to the NFL by the Cowboys defense to the tune of three interceptions in the fourth quarter. The Dallas “D” also held the NFL’s leading rusher in LeSean McCoy to just 55 yards on 18 attempts. Foles was actually the Eagles’ leading rusher after the first half with 25 yards. The Cowboys offense also struggled, but Dallas was able to hit pay-dirt twice in the second half with touchdowns by both running back Phillip Tanner and rookie wideout Terrance Williams. During the game, Dallas quarterback Tony Romo set a league record by having more passing yards in his first 100 games as a starter then any other NFL quarterback in league history. He finished the game going 28 of 47 passes for 317 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Dallas was able to get the win despite missing starters DeMarcus Ware and DeMarco Murray. Ware was replaced at defensive end by Kyle Wilber, who finished the day with one single tackle. But newcomer George Selvie picked up the slack recording 1.5 sacks on the day. Rookie running back Joseph Randle replaced Murray in the back field and recorded 65 rushing yards in his starting debut. The Cowboys are currently undefeated against NFC East foes as they handed the Eagles their ninth straight loss at home. This was also Dallas’ first road win of the season and their first back-to-back wins as well. The 4-3 NFC East leading Cowboys travel to Detroit next weekend to battle the Lions at home. # Jon
