The Dark Knight marathon continues! After Begins was a HUGE - TopicsExpress

The Dark Knight marathon continues! After Begins was a HUGE hit, there was so much hype over the next Batman movie. Again, I was skeptical about a few things: it wont be better than the first, Heath Ledger is the wrong choice for The Joker, and who the hell decided to take Batman out of the title?! Then the teasers and the trailers hit, and I already knew I was proven wrong on all three counts. Plus, Nolan had just released The Prestige, so he had a pretty damn good track record so far with recent hits and proved he could be mainstream. Then, ofcourse, Heath Ledger passed away with rumors of him being lost in the role being apart of the problem, so everyone was curious anyway, even if they werent a fan. Opening night, there was a HUGE line of people waiting hours to see it and it was sold out in 5 auditoriums (this is before Twilight and Hunger Games would shut down entire theaters just for their opening). I remember seeing the movie for the first time and feeling a little... in a fog. It was good, I just wasnt sure I was taking it all in. There were ofcourse the parts where I was absolutely wowed and cheered during those moments (the theater erupted in the biggest roar Ive ever heard in a theater on the pencil vanishing trick and I myself stood up and clapped when Batmans Batpod rode up a wall and flipped around), but when it was over, I wasnt saying it was amazing or great. Every one else was, but I was kinda in a daze. I sat on the memory of the movie for a week or so before it hit me... but I had just seen one of the biggest, best, and most important films of all time. In a way, I was basically speechless at first. I saw it again in IMAX and was even more floored, confirming my suspicions and justifying its spot as my third favorite movie ever (still to this day). The movie would go on to make a billion friggin dollars (it was the 3rd movie to do so, but in the last five years, theres been nearly 20 other movies to do so, so its barely special anymore but at least it did it without 3D to help inflate ticket costs), and ofcourse many people said it was overrated because they saw it the weekend after (I swear, there wasnt a single negative thought from anyone who saw it when it opened), and there were plenty of newcomers coming into the second film of a trilogy (theres STILL people who think TDK is the first movie and must think Begins doesnt exist or something, semi-confirming either the name change was dumb or people just are). At the end of the day, TDK was a step up. So inevitably, a third was announced... more on that in a bit...
