The Dark Moon, all but forgotten in modern times, encourages deep reflection prior to the creative surge of our upcoming Winter Solstice New Moon. These are photos of a human-crafted chamber that was found in the small town of Upton, MA about 5 years ago. Such tunnels are known throughout New England. I’ve been in others in Vermont with my good friend and sound healer, Zacchiah Blackburn. Zacciah and I greeted the Winter Solstice sun in one of these structures many years ago. Despite that many people claim these are storage shelters – “root cellars” - where farmers stored food, others believe they are ancient astronomical markers, related to one another via invisible energy lines across New England. The most impressive and elaborate structure of tunnels and chambers and standing stones, “America’s Stonehenge”, in Salem, NH is estimated to date back over 4,000 years; the oldest human-made structure in the United States. As this Dark Moon draws us deep these next few days, we can imagine we are in such chambers and ancient astronomical dreaming caverns. We can incubate and journey to the deep, hidden places within us, and the Earth. Then on the New Moon we can greet the Winter Solstice sun, just as people have done for millennia, all over the world – welcome the return of light, as each day will grow longer from here. We can also revitalize and manifest our dreaming with the incredible creative surge the New Moon offers. Power to you in these Dark Moon days! From my heart to yours, Cedar
