The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust combats blindness in Kenya One of the most effective wildlife conservation organizations in Kenya is the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. David Shedrick was the founding warden of Tsavo East National Park. The Trust was founded in 1977 by his wife, Daphne, and has become world-renowned for its pioneering success in rescuing orphaned baby elephants and re-introducing them into Tsavo. However, as with many wildlife conservation teams, the Trust is firmly committed to the marginalized communities living on the borders of the National Parks and Protected Area within the greater Tsavo Conservation Area. One of their most recent partnerships organized the Tsavo Conservation Area Eye Mission. With blindness ten times more common in Kenya than in the Western World, the objective of this mission was to combat blindness, which, in children, is often the result of a deficiency of vitamin A.
