The Defect Is Not In The Beard The Imaam and Muhadith of Yemen, Shaikh Muqbil Ibn Haadee al-Waadi’ee (may Allah have mercy upon him) stated: When you see a person with a beard being a liar or when you see a person with a beard being a betrayer or when you see a person with a beard being a thief, (then know) the defect is not in the beard. Rather the defect is in the person who has the beard. As for the beard (in and of itself), there’s no defect in it. It is from the characteristics of the Fitrah (the natural disposition). It is also from the Sunan of the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alayhi wa alaa aalihi wa sallam) which he commanded with and obligated. Source: Ijaabatus-Saa-il, pg. 222 Similarly When you see a person with the Hijaab or Niqaab being a liar or when you see such being a betrayer or a thief or a Serial Selfier or Mutabaarrijat or a Sister with attitude problems , then know the defect is not in the Hijaab . Rather the defect is in the person who wears the Hijaab . As for the Hijaab (in and of itself), there’s no defect in it.. So do not attempt to crucify the practice of keeping the beard or wearing the Hijaab because of the personal defect of the one who practises it, humans arent perfect but Allaahs Laws and Islaam remain perfect. However let the one who keeps his beard or wears the Hijaab be a person of noble character, a person worthy of being emulated. He or she must not necessarily engage in what others engage in whether on social media or beyond , let the beard or the Hijaab reflect the noble character and characteristics of Muslims, let the beard or Hijaab radiate the manners and mannerisms of the true servants of Allaah, and let such persons ethics and ethical values be in tandem with what Islaam has brought. Indeed the Messenger Salaallaahu alaih wa Salaam was sent to perfect good morals. Let our character mirror the beautiful teachings of Islaam. Ameerul Mumineen Umar Ibn Khattab Radiyallaahu Anhu is reported to have said Invite People to Islaam without saying a word , the Muslims present then asked how, he replied with your manners. I ask Allaah to make us a true reflection of what we practise in words and deeds, may Allaah grant us Steadfastness in this Deen. Aamiin.
