The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) ranked 142 out of 178 in the 2013 Press Freedom Index! Nothing much to brag about! The DRC needs to do much better. However, it’s worth noting that the DRC gained 3 points in one year (it ranked 145 in 2011 – 2012) and outranks 36 countries in the world (09 of which are African)… The countries at the bottom of the 2013 index (behind the DRC) are respectively: Cambodia, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Palestine, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Iraq, Burma, Gambia, Mexico, Turkey, Swaziland, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Rwanda, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Bahrain, Equatorial Guinea, Djibouti, Laos, Yemen, Sudan, Cuba, Vietnam, China, Iran, Somalia, Syria, Turkmenistan, North Korea, Eritrea.
