The Department of Arts and Culture has embarked on a campaign to encourage South Africans to appreciate and celebrate their arts, culture and heritage. Dubbed Freedom Fridays, this on-going program is aimed at inculcating pride and ownership of the diverse and rich cultural heritage, and to promote social cohesion and nation building. But most of all Arts and Culture Minister Paul Mashatile, wants the arts to be transformed into a sustainable economy through the Mzanzi Golden Economy Programme. But is this an achievable goal?
