The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. Staff Sgt. Sonny C. Zimmerman, 25, of Waynesfield, Ohio, died July 16, in Mushaka, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his vehicle was attacked by a rocket propelled grenade. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, Fort Campbell, Ky. We extend our sincerest condolences to the family of SSGT Zimmerman in their time of grief, and share in that grief. We will not forget that their loved one volunteered to defend our country in time of war, and lost his life doing so. May they find the strength they need to cope with their immense loss. Rest in peace, soldier.
