The Department of Environmental Protection, in conjunction with Hoboken, Weehawken and Jersey City, will be holding a meeting on Tuesday, January 20, in Hoboken to gather public input on storm-resiliency projects for the three Hudson County cities to be funded through the federal Housing and Urban Development’s Rebuild by Design competition. “This meeting will allow the DEP to gather a wealth of ideas on projects that will help protect these waterfront communities from future storms such as Superstorm Sandy,” DEP Deputy Commissioner David Glass said. “HUD’s Rebuild by Design competition is designed to facilitate innovative approaches to helping provide more resiliency in these areas, better protecting lives and property.” The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Hoboken Multi Service Center, 124 Grand Street, Hoboken 07030. HUD has approved $230 million in Community Development Block Grants for conceptual projects to prevent storm surge in the three communities. Residents are being encouraged to attend the meeting in Hoboken to discuss the storm protection problems their communities face and provide advice on ways they may be addressed. Officials from the DEP, including staff from the Department’s Flood Hazard Risk Reduction Measures, will be on hand to listen to input and answer questions. HUD representatives will be on hand as well as local officials.
