The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) conducted a two-day NEO (Newly Elected Officers) Basic Orientation Seminar for all the newly-minted and re-elected Mayors in CALABARZON at the Development Academy of the Philippines, Tagaytay City, last July 18-19, 2013. The NEO Program is an initiative of DILG through Local Government Academy (LGA) in its commitment to come up with a harmonized and holistic capacity development delivery mechanism for the Local Government Units (LGU).The NEO seminar aims to let the new local chief executives be familiar with the major mandates of DILG to guide them in the implementation of their programs and projects. Task and responsibilities of Local Chief Executives, Social Contract, 100 Days Agenda are some of the topics discussed in the seminar. The said event also catered dialogues with oversight and sectoral agencies which gave the participants the opportunity to ask and expound things with the agencies. Aside from the NEO Seminar, DILG also introduced the NEO Webinar Program, an internet-based seminar / study about good governance. With this program, the newly-elected officials can enrich their knowledge and skills about good governance without consuming too much of their time. Through these programs, DILG hopes to successfully create a cadre of development-oriented newly-elected officials and to educate them of all the information relating to transparency, accountability, and receptiveness in addressing the issues hampering the local government units.
