The Deputy Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council, Councillor Brian Quinn, hosted a Reception in honour of Colm Campbell to mark his achievements on the Irish Golfing Circuit. Speaking at the Reception Councillor Quinn said: “As Deputy Mayor it is my privilege and pleasure to host this evening’s Reception to honour Colm Campbell who, although still a young man, has excelled in his chosen sport of Golf. Colm, I am told, had a love of golf from the age of three. Having joined Warrenpoint Golf Club as a member at the age of nine, he went on to play in numerous competitions and team events, winning many of these at a very young age. Colm played against Jimmy Bruen at the age of 14 and reach All Ireland finals with the team who won All Ireland in the Senior Cup and Barton Shield. He also received his first Ulster Cap in 2011. Over the last couple of years Colm has played in and won many prestigious competitions all over Ireland . Colm, on behalf of my Council I want to congratulate you on your terrific achievements. Your determination and commitment is a credit to you. You have raised the profile of Warrenpoint Golf Club throughout this Island and I have no doubt that because of your success more and more young people will take up Golf. It would be remiss of me not to pay tribute to all those who contributed to your success including your parents and grandparents who supported you. I would also like to pay tribute to your coaches at Warrenpoint Golf Club and all those from the Club who encouraged you over the years. Colm, you have been a wonderful ambassador for Newry and Mourne. You have succeeded in raising the profile of our district throughout Ireland. You are a credit to yourself, your family and to your community. I wish you every success in the future and have no doubt that your name will be up there with all the golfing greats which Ireland has produced over the years”.
