The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Monday said his sole reason for joining politics was toaddress the myriads of problems facing his people, expressing delight that 16 years after, the people have felt his impact tremendously. “The essence of my position is to address the problems of the people I represent. I see myself as a representative of people who have suffered many deprivations over the years, so I understand the problems of our people, that is why I focus on their problems everyday. “We will continue to provide water, roads, electricity, scholarship and other amenities to the people through the constituency intervention funds. There has been delay in the execution of some projects due to delay in the release of funds but we have sorted it out with the Minister of Finance and I can assure that all the ongoing projects will be completed,” he pledged. Ekweremadu spoke as he donated a brand new Toyota executive bus to traditional rulers from his Enugu West senatorial zone. Speaking while presenting the bus to theroyal fathers who paid him a courtesy call at his Enugu residence, Ekweremadu stated that the gift was a fulfilment of a promise and in recognition of the tremendous support he had enjoined from the traditional rulers in his successful political career. The Deputy Senate President, who also played host to leaders of four other communities including Oduma, Ndiabourand Agboechara all in Aninri local government area and Enugu-Maku in Awgu local government area, assured the royal fathers that he will not disappoint them or engage in acts that would bring embarrassment to them. While expressing gratitude to God and the people of the state over the opportunity given him to add value to the lives, Ekweremadu noted that his mission was to complement the efforts of the Enugu State Government in proving dividends of democracy to the people and expressed appreciation to the State Governor, Sullivan Chime, for hisinnovative projects in the state. For the delegation of four communities, Ekweremadu stated that he was overwhelmed by the show of love and solidarity by the people, which he said does not only demonstrate support but re-affirmation of existing cordial relationship between him the people from the various communities some of whom he was seeing again after several years. In his remarks, the Chairman of Enugu West Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Harford Agana, expressed gratitude to Ekweremadu for the bus, noting that with over 15,000 youths under the senator’s scholarship scheme and the numerous projects he had attracted to the zone and Enugu State in general, he has proved to be the best senator the zone has produced so far. The spokespersons of Enugu-Maku community Malachi Ochei and Chief S. U. Chukwu, stated that the people of the community had resolved to join forces with the senator in his political endeavours because of the road, appointments and other amenities he attracted to them, and solicited his their assistance in the rehabilitation of a secondary school in their community. The leader of Greater Oduma General Assembly, Chief Benjamin Njoku, thankedEkweremadu for the construction of Nnenwe-Mpu road, Awgu-Ndiabor-Okpanku road and other projects he attracted to Aninri local government and the senatorial zone, even as he pledged to cooperation of his people to the contractors handling the projects in the area.
