The Divine Example on Greatness Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave--Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many. Matthew 20:26-28 One quality of being an effective leader is knowing your purpose. Without knowing your purpose it is difficult to be focused and productive. Jesus clearly knew His purpose. He came to serve not to be served and to give. He filtered all He did and every step through His purpose. Just as He knew what He was to do He also knew what He was not to do... He did not come to be served. He did not come to make it a Jesus show. He came to show us how to serve one another. Jesus also left this purpose for His disciples and for each of us. They were to serve and so are we. Want to be first ... serve your brother. In a competitive fast paced world this purpose is not written on many job descriptions. Putting the words serve and give in our job description expands our leadership to a whole new level. We now begin leading when it is no longer about us but becomes about serving others and giving them the tools to become all God created them to be. Serving others is allowing yourself to help fulfill their desires and empower them to their fullest potential. True greatness begins with ONE word Serve. Whenever your mind and heart becomes filled with others you have found a place of freedom. When we begin to care and enter in the world of others we have found greatness.
