The Doctors Dilemma Revisited ! Brilliantly Written by & sharing from Ramakant Tiwari sb Ever since I read The Doctors Dilemma by GB Shaw long ago, my conscience has been pricking me with the rebellious thought as to why GBS did not utter a word of sympathy or empathy whichever applicable, for the doctors wife who was suffering from a dilemma of analog variety. My moral dilemma has been aggravating gradually albeit steadily since then. Only when the better half of my conscience threatened me of charging me of being MCP (Male Chauvinistic Pig) of the worst variety, I scurried around to honour tremendous responsibility of expressing a few words and thoughts for the hapless better halves of doctors who plunge into dilemma and expect their better halves to pull them out of the real mess. Dilemma of a doctors wife is of a strange variety and we all must organise our wits prudently to have a first hand experience of that. It is strange because whenever she desires for love, all that she is offered is bizarre medical / clinical jingoism. If she has superb pedicured legs, all that her doctor hubby beholds is long shaky course of the saphenous veins running from foot to groin !! When she catches cold, instead of hot soup and loving care, all that she is offered is a treatise on inflamed Bronchial membranes and associated Alveolar narrowing !! When a doctors wife suffered from typhoid, she was vividly explained how Salmonella typhi inflamed her Peyers patches instead of....well, you judge yourself !! When an English wife of a French doctor demanded the much romanticised French kiss, he got himself busy in explaining to her eloquently how a French kiss is merely a juxtaposition of the Orbicularis Oris muscles and direct transfer of native bacteria...first the hypothetical kiss was killed, then the hypothetical romance !!! What do you say about it ? Will you at all ? A doctor super specialising in Anaesthesia effectively anaesthetised entire tenderness of his wife when he described love as a proper, synchronised functioning of the entire Limbic system !! A doctor extended his erudition of Grays Anatomy too far when he annoyed his wife by describing mammary glands merely being bags of fluid fat and protein when the clock struck twelve at mid-night !! And her magnificent behind just a fat-covered muscle called Gluteus maximus !! When a very dear wife of a cardiologist bemoaned of rising heart-beat at an opportune moment, the good doctor of hearts discussed in detail clinicology of Tachycardia and calmed down her ruffled heart !! And nerves too !! When a wife complained of breathing heavily and may be rightly so, her husband specialising in Pulmonary Medicine explained bio-rhythmic movements of Inter-costal muscles along the ribs... Dilemma of the wife of a Neurologist is a bit tricky !!! Even her minor mood-swings are analysed and diagnosed to be Schizophrenia !! A beautiful flat belly of the wife of a brilliant super-specialist in Gastroenterology aroused him so much that he marked precisely where he would cut to reach the appendix at McBurneys Point !! When she desparately struggled to point out her superb navel, the brilliant Gastro-surgeon informed her politely that it was Umbilicus and just below were located Pylorus, Duodenum, Kidneys and the first Lumber Verterbra !! When she angrily exploded, the learned surgeon ascribed it to hyperactive Amygdala !!! It was only then she discovered herself as a museum-piece in a jar full of liquid Formalin placed in a museum of surgery, she decided enough is enough...and conducted excision surgery of appendicitis on her husband by declaring himself the right appendix.... I hope I have been able to do justice to myself by dealing with the moral dilemma I have been suffering from since then... One statement-declaration I may do with certitude and confidence - these doctors are highly spiritualised species...in this Mithyajagat, they distinguish and discriminate Asatya from Satya with marvellous poise and ease !!!
