The Doors at Union Catholic High School? Who Knew? Over the - TopicsExpress

The Doors at Union Catholic High School? Who Knew? Over the years, Union Catholic High School’s reputation as a 1960s rock concert mecca has reached almost mythic proportions. For example on the website thedoorsguide, a comprehensive site devoted to everything related to The Doors, there is a listing of every single concert The Doors ever gave. Lo and behold if you scroll down to September 20, 1967 you will see a mention of a Doors concert given at Union Catholic High School. Now, those of you who have read “When Stars Were in Reach” already know that the first rock concert staged at the Union Catholic was by The Who on November 29, 1967. So it’s obvious that this entry is in error. It’s also true that The Doors never played at U.C.H.S. However we don’t know how the rumor started that The Doors appeared at the school. Interestingly, when “When Stars Were in Reach” got published, the website operator of thedooorsguide, contacted author Michael Rosenbloom to confirm whether or not The Doors had in fact appeared at Union Catholic High School and to pick his brain if the concert had indeed taken place. Michael quashed that rumor. That is why you’ll notice that the entry for The Doors’ Union Catholic show (see 9/20/67 entry) is in gray and not in white lettering. You’ll also notice an asterisk by the date. If you click on the concert entry you’ll see a reference and link to When Stars Were in Reach. If anybody has a clue as to how this rumor got started, please comment below. Wed sure like to be in on the secret.
