The Drummond, Guildford, 01/10/13 A new venue for us, and geographically further afield than we have played of late. The Drummond has a blues night every four weeks, but apparently this was the first time they have had a band, as opposed to solo performers. And what a nice place. Oliver Darling opened for us, playing some nifty acoustic blues, and sporting a rather tasty National guitar. Well played. For our set, the playing space was a little more constricted than usual, but we all managed to get up and play without too much damage. Jez got well in to the groove early on, and his slide playing on Elmore James’ ‘Dust my Broom’ was particularly tasty, and worked well as ever with Richard’s driving drums. Andy’s bass continues to delight. The opening bass lines sound particularly haunting on The Animals classic, ‘We Got To get Out Of This Place’; this has become a firm favourite with our audience. A neat segue between ‘Good Whisky’ and ‘Riot In Cell Block Number Nine’ worked really well, and gave us a chance to sound tighter than usual. We must have done something right, because the management booked us to return. As I said, a good place, really nice staff who looked after us well. Some old friends came along to show support, and we made a lot of new chums on the night, who we hope we will be seeing again on our return. Bring your friends. As ever, thanks to all of you who continue to support our band. Keep your eyes posted on face book for next confirmed gig. Until then, the midnight river keeps rolling on, Cheers, Howard
