The EU is supporting the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) under the Social Accountability Platform to build the capacity of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the media in monitoring service delivery at the district level. The two-day event which began today 1 December 2014, is part of efforts at increasing accountability of local government and service providers at the district level and is targeted at those in the Northern sector of the country, Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Upper East and Upper West regions. The Head of the Governance Section at the EU Delegation, Ms Pilar Palmero highlighted the importance of working together with different key actors, district assemblies, civil society and media for the improvement of service delivery to Ghanaian citizens. Also at the event were Mr. Richard Kambobeh, Deputy Director ILGS, Mr. Ibrahim Afa, representative of LOGNET and Mr. Edward. Aboagye, project Manager Social Accountability Platform project manager Background: The EU is providing EUR 985,590.00 to the Institute of Local Government Studies to facilitate a Social Accountability Platform that will bring together civil society organisations and the media to share experiences and harmonise the instruments and tools for social accountability. It also seeks to facilitate the interface been CSOs and the media with government at both local and national levels.
