The Editor: In the recent times, we have been able to see a genuine turn in Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) with the general saying that no one is above the law. For the past two decades, this was never so. We always heard clamouring that persons in high positions in our society would break the laws and get away with it. Others have said there is one law for the normal citizen and another for the elite. In recent times, we have seen that this is not the case anymore, and it should be noted. We have three major examples within the last month. The first being the Minister of the People and Social Development was fired from being a cabinet minister for his actions on a Caribbean Airline flight from Tobago to Trinidad. The second is the Minister of Tourism pressured to resign from public outcry for his involvement in allegedly endangering the life of a woman in public. Last but not least, we had an executive of First Citizens Bank purchasing 659,588 shares in the IPO (costing $14 million) and then sold it on January 14 for a $12 million profit. The Attorney General being unbiased, sent this matter after his deliberation to the DPP and the police. In the past, these things were unheard of in T&T. We must give kudos to all those who are creating this new precedence. Its better late than never. No one is above the law. Derrick Johnson via email
