The Egyptians are continuing their efforts for a ceasefire but one senior Egyptian official told me that the ceilings of both sides are too high. It seems that we are in the final countdown until the Israeli ground operation begins. I think that the Israeli army has not been so anxious to enter on the ground in Gaza. They will be entering without clearly defined operation goals and objectives. There are calls from politicians and former officers to clean up Gaza That means a lot of civilian deaths. Hamas wants Israel to enter. I have no doubts about this. They think they will finally have a chance to do what the rockets failed to do- to kill Israelis. They would love to blow up tanks with the anti tank rockets that they have. They hope to kidnap soldiers. This is total disaster. Does someone have a credible alternative strategy to end this horrible situation?
