The El Western Motel in Ennis, Montana is in reality a cleverly concealed time- warp feedback loop that transports a car and occupants back somewhere to the 1960s and The Golden Age of Car Travel when the station wagon was king. The knotty pine cabin chock full of built-in cabinets with niches for grooming, writing postcards, shoes and coats is a place you could settle into for weeks of summer lolling. Old West kitsch adornments lure the imagination backwards, the leatherette armchairs with horseshoe imprints, the doubletree horse harness light fixture, the stretched cowhide lampshades and branding iron stamps burned into the pine window trim all testament that real cowboys probably stayed here at one time with spurs on their boots chewing twigs on the porch . Magpies with their elegantly trailing tail feathers, cottontail rabbits and pigeons hop among the trees outside. Buddy and Sis probably played Cowboys and Indians on the lawn outside, thankful to be out of the car after long, boring hours in the car with mom and dad. Sis wore her red cowgirl outfit with tassels and a white pistolaro belt. Buddy shot rubber suction cup arrows at his sister when mom wasn’t looking. Lovingly restored with all the modcons of the Digital Age, it’s a nostalgic stroll down Boomer Lane when we gobbled westerns on TV and slugged down coca cola out of green tinged glass bottles on hot summer days. Attacking Indians shout “Woo woo woo!!” Cowboys drawl “Well I suppose…………”
