The Embassy of the State of Palestine in collaboration with the United Nations Information Centre, Friends of the Environment and Friends of Palestine Solidarity Movement organised the commemorations of the International day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people, one year after the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the year 2014 as the International Year of Solidarity with our People, and two years following its adoption of the historic resolution to raise the status of Palestine to non-member Observer State in the United Nations. The Guest of Honour was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Honourable Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, who graced the occasion and delivered a magnificent and supportive speech in which he reaffirmed that, “the Government and people of Zimbabwe stand unwaveringly in solidarity with the Palestinian people as they pursue, with determination, their inalienable right to independence and self-determination in the face of a brutal occupying power, Israel.” The Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Zimbabwe, H.E. Mr Hashem Dajani in his speech, also took the opportunity to thank the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Comrade Robert Gabriel Mugabe for reaffirming the Zimbabwean firm stand of solidarity towards the rights of the Palestinian people on several occasions. Ambassador expressed the desire to enhance and strengthen the wonderful historical relations that exist between the State of Palestine and the friendly Republic of Zimbabwe Also Present was the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator H.E. Mr Bishow Parajuli who read the speech of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon. The Embassy highly appreciated the Friends of the Environment Trust for donating and dedicating to the Embassy 600 trees as a sign of their support and solidarity with the rights of the Palestinian people. To officially launch this initiative, the Ambassador, the honourable Minister, the UN Representative and a representative from the Friends of Environment Trust, planted a tree as a symbol of peace and solidarity.
