The Emerson Williams meeting went ok tonight. Mrs Catarius did a wonderful job as always. Mr Dignotti talked about the WFD and there response and about how the chain of command works when they are on scene. Mr Emmett and Mr Bushy also spoke. Mr Emmett stressed safety first in all situations. There have been 7 alarms for the year at EW as well as other responses to other schools in the area. Mr Bushy brought with him some if the articles thst had been broken. One was a valve that was defective in which the aluminum cast had cracked...the stove at the school that triggered 2 of the alarms was 60 years old.....the stove is being replaced....this stove was the original when the school was built. Mr Bushy made a point to say that Hartford Steamfitters is state mandated to do inspections of boilers...the inspections are supposed to be performed once a year..sometimes the inspections dont happen for 18 months. Mr Bushy stated that items are checked. Preventive maintenance was brought up but not really addressed or ansered well....this was a disappointment as PM is important to keep up functionality of equipment. Parents made comments or suggestions. In the end WFD and EW staff did exactly what they are supposed to do. Mr Emmett in his first year as Superintendent has made changes but with the BOE more changes need to happen. There is still no accountability from the BOE (in which no-one from the BOE was present at tonights meeting). The meeting lasted about 1:45.
