The Energy Community Secretariat today sent a letter to the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, H.E. Mr Igor Corman, raising its serious concerns about the recent dismissal of the Director General of ANRE, the national regulatory authority for energy. Parliament’s decision to dismiss Mr Victor Parlicov last Friday was reasoned with “inefficient activity, multiple declarations and promises regarding reduction of tariffs, which never came about”. Under these circumstances, the dismissal contradicts the country’s Law on Energy as well as the notion of independence of regulatory authorities and their role under the Energy Community Treaty. “We can and will not close our eyes to the dismissal of the head of a national regulatory authority which is motivated by reasons running counter to the objective of the Treaty. This sets a bad example also for other Contracting Parties” reads the letter sent by Director Kopač.
