Every class in a class divided society, and particularly the ruling class, requires an intelligentsia who helps it ‘make sense’ of the world. This group frames issues, provides narratives, engages in analysis, and otherwise provides the ideological framework within which rational action becomes possible (as opposed to just being lost in a sea of events).....
